What Being a Parent Has Taught Me
When you become a parent, you enter an entirely new chapter of life. And even though it’s something you dream about for a long time, you never really know what it’s all about until you get there. As a mama to our son with a daughter on the way, there is so much I’ve learned about being a parent and I’m still just at the very beginning of it all. Here is what being a parent has taught me so far.

Go With the Flow
If you learn anything as a parent, it’s to go with the flow. The idea of things going exactly as planned goes out the window. And if you’re a major planner like me, this can be a tough pill to swallow.
But as time goes on, you learn how to let go and start adjusting. Children keep you on your toes, that’s for sure!
After becoming a parent, I’ve learned to adapt and be ready for changes in routine.
Pick My Battles
When you’re raising a little one, you realize what is actually worth putting up a fight and what is not. You’re not dealing with a grown, rational adult here LOL.
Things that may have been big problems to you before may now seem so small. It’s another part of going with the flow. Sometimes you just need to let things happen as they will.
And once you start picking your battles at home, you may also start to relax and not react so quickly to other scenarios outside of the home.
There’s a Special Kind of Love Out There
I know, I know. Everyone says this. But I truly didn’t know this type of love until I had my son. I have gotten genuinely emotional thinking about how much I love my son and have never wanted the absolute best for anyone more in my life.
Being a parent teaches you so much about how to care for another person and not only think about yourself.
I Can Do Hard Things
Throughout life, I’ve sometimes doubted myself and what I was capable of. But once I went through pregnancy, labor, and birth, I realized I could do anything I set my mind to.
Now, whenever I am unsure if I can handle a situation, I remember everything I’ve been through. There are some really great days as a parent but there are definitely difficult days too.
As you navigate through parenthood, you’ll realize that you are capable of doing hard things too.
Major Self Reflection
Becoming a parent requires you to do some major self reflection. Your kids see your behaviors and learn from them.
Being a parent makes you hold the mirror up to yourself and determine whether or not you are setting the example you want to set for them.
Concluding What Being a Parent Has Taught Me
Becoming a parent is something you just need to experience to truly understand. It is the most rewarding thing in the world and will definitely teach you important life lessons. What has being a parent taught you? Share in the comments!
