1. Schedule Out Your Time

You can avoid the overwhelm by scheduling out your holiday festivities. Some people are spontaneous but others like myself can get anxious when I’m not prepared to do something last minute.

If you’re a planner and thrive on schedules, make sure you do what makes you feel comfortable!

You don’t have to feel obligated to join in on plans last minute. If you’re not up for another Christmas party or a last minute Secret Santa exchange, remember that it’s okay to pass.

2. Take Days Off

The holiday season can feel nonstop. Make sure you are taking days off to relax and reset. And when I say “day off,” I mean an actual day off.

Don’t take a day off so you can run errands or get something else done.

Having a day for yourself is a great way to practice self care during the holidays.

3. Surround Yourself With People Who Lift You Up

Yes, this can be a time of year where you may see family you don’t always enjoy being around. But the holiday season should be fun and positive.

Make it a point to see the people you actually want to see and surround yourself with positivity.

One of the best things you can do for your mental health is be around people who share the same energy as you.

4. Make Time To Set Goals & Intentions for the New Year

Another great thing you can do for yourself? Show up.

Find quiet time to think about yourself and what you’d like to accomplish once the holidays are over. Give thought to the person you want to blossom into and start showing up as that person, even before the new year starts.

You don’t have to be super into New Year’s resolutions to do this. Goal setting can be done any time of year. But it doesn’t hurt to start a fresh year with a fresh set of goals and intentions.

5. Be Present

Lastly, an important way to practice self care during the holidays is to be present. The holiday season seems to come and go in the blink of an eye.

So much planning and prep goes into something that feels like it’s over so quickly. Practice self care this year by being as present as possible with your family and friends.

Trust me, you’ll look back and thank yourself later.
