1. Newborn Clothes

The first newborn must have, and this might sound obvious, is a decent variety of newborn clothes. You don’t want to go overboard but you’ll quickly learn that you’ll be rotating through outfits a lot.
It helps to have a solid set of newborn clothes so that you are ready for any scenario.
For example, our baby boy was born in the fall. We had plenty of short sleeve onesies like the ones shown above. But we needed to get newborn pajamas as well because we only had 0-3 month pajamas.
Our boy was in desparate need of clothes to keep him warm for when we had to venture out to doctor appointments! So be sure to think seasonal.
Snag yourself a pack or two of onesies so that you have plenty to alternate with.
2. Swaddles

Swaddles are a definite must with newborns! They can be helpful when your baby is fussy. Swaddles are also great for preventing your baby from scratching themselves or startling themselves awake with their flailing arms. We loved using these CuddleBug swaddles.
3. Diapers

Another no-brainer! Be sure to have a decent stash of newborn sized diapers but I highly recommend stocking up on TONS of size ones. You won’t need the newborn sizes for long because these sweet babies grow quickly!
We had a few packages of size ones when our son was born but I realized early on that the stash we had wasn’t going to last very long.
Get yourself started with a good stockpile of diapers if you have the room for it. We love using Huggies diapers!
4. Wipes

Just as important as diapers are wipes! These Huggies Natural Care wipes have been my favorites.
5. Bassinet

Bassinets are a definite newborn must have! I was torn on bassinets because I was skeptical about spending money on something that was only going to be used temporarily.
I decided to go with this Delta Children bassinet because it was the most basic, has a little extra storage at the bottom, and you could wheel it around!
Living in a one bedroom apartment, we loved having the option to move the bassinet wherever we needed it.
Sometimes, we wanted it in the room and other times we wanted it out in the living room/nursery area.
6. Newborn Pacifiers

When our son was first born, we opened up a random package of pacifiers and tried them out. He would sometimes take them and sometimes not.
I mentioned this to a friend who had a baby a few months before me and she asked if the ones we were using were newborn pacifiers.
They weren’t, they were a bigger size. But we had another package that were newborn sized. And sure enough, our little man took to those pacifiers SO much better!
So be sure to have newborn pacifiers on hand so that you are ready to go when you bring your baby home.
7. Baby Monitor

Baby monitors are a must and we absolutely love our Nanit Pro Smart Baby Monitor.

8. Bottle Warmer

When I say that this was a game changer, I truly mean it. I breastfed briefly then swtiched to exclusively pumping.
Once I was producing enough to store my milk in the fridge, we realized we needed an effecient way to warm up the milk.
We immediately ordered this bottle warmer and it was hands down one of the best purchases we made. It has been used regularly and 100% worth the money!
9. Baby Brezza

If you’re planning to formula feed, you NEED a Baby Brezza! There are different kinds out there but we went with the most basic one.
It simply keeps the water at the right temperature. You fill your bottle with the water and then add formula. Simple!
10. Hatch Baby RestSound Machine

Hands down one of the best newborn must haves! The Hatch sound machine gets used every night at our place and has a great variety of sounds.
11. Burp Cloths

Lastly, make sure you have PLENTY of burp cloths. I knew babies spat up, but I didn’t realize how much until I had a little cutie of my own! We have burp cloths spread out everywhere so that we are always prepared.
